Mount Vernon and Peace - AD 1784

This painting, entitled Mount Vernon and Peace, by the American artist Jean Leon Gerome Ferris depicts Lafayette's last visit to Mount Vernon during this time of peace. They play a game of 'Whist' together, a game that George Washington enjoyed playing. Martha Washington sits with her back toward us and Lafayette and George are on the left and right sides, respectively.
