Introduction to Pitch Systems in Tonal Music: Temperaments, Roots of 2, and Conclusions
Temperaments, Roots of 2, and Conclusions
This final presentation shows why the tonal systems needs 12 pitches,
defines temperament as it is applied to tuning systems, shows the
mathematics and sound of Equal Temperament, and compares 12 tone Equal
Temperament to the tuning systems already explored in this series.
The compromises inherent in Equal Temperament are explored and the
idea of building new tuning systems is demonstrated using a
synthesizer that will play any tuning based on the roots of two.
