This C++ video tutorial steps through the process of installing Microsoft's free version of their Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Visual C++ 2008 Express.

  1. To begin, open a browser and navigate to Microsoft's download page: http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/
  2. Click the word download in the yellow Visual C++ box to start the installation.
  3. Then click the 'Run' button to begin to the setup.
  4. Click 'Next' to get to the license agreement.
  5. When you are ready, click the radio button next to "I have read and accept the license terms" and then click the 'Next' button.
  6. This takes you to the installation options. You do not need any of these, but you might want to check the box next to 'MSDN' if you prefer to have documentation on your computer, instead of using the Internet. When you are done selecting options, click the 'Next' button.
  7. On the destination screen, click 'Next' to accept the default location.
  8. This begins the installation, which may take some time. When it is finished, your installation is complete.
  9. You can start Visual C++ by clicking the Start Menu —> All Programs —> Visual C++ 9.0 Express Edition —> Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition.
